Information on the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan

Public Input Needed – Complete a Short Survey!!

The public is invited to complete a short survey regarding what is needed in terms of parks and recreation for the Clarion Region.  This survey is being conducted as part of the Clarion Regional Parks and Recreation Plan and is a follow-up from the public meeting held last fall.  To download a copy of the survey, please click here.   All responses will be kept confidential.  The results of the survey will be presented at the public meeting on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Clarion Main Street Center located at 516 Main Street in Clarion.

Through the planning process, residents in the region have identified a number of new recreation facilities and programs that are needed.  The survey looks to ask residents to prioritize those facilities and programs in order to direct future grant applications and new investments.

A focus of the plan is on building partnerships, both with neighboring municipalities and other recreation providers.  The survey contains questions regarding public support for regional partnerships as well as public funding to provide parks and recreation in the region.

CLARION, pa, SEPTEMBER 1, 2010:  The public is invited to attend a public meeting for the Clarion Regional Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Clarion Main Street Center, 516 Main Street, Clarion, PA 16214-1106.  To view the flyer, please click here!

The meeting focuses on an exciting regional initiative to complete a Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan for the Clarion Region.  The Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan will identify current deficiencies regarding parks and recreation facilities, programs, etc. and offer recommendations to address those concerns.  The geographic scope of the plan encompasses parks and recreation facilities and services offered within a 15-mile radius of Clarion Borough, and recommendations will address ways to improve recreation opportunities for the region as a whole.  Input from residents within the entire 15-mile radius is being sought.

The plan will take a close look at current administrative practices and partnerships, and will also examine the personnel, programs, facilities, and maintenance of regional parks and facilities, including the Paul A. Weaver Community Park, Clarion County Park, Clarion County YMCA, Clarion Area School District facilities, Clarion University facilities, the Clarion Municipal Pool, and the Toby Boat Launch.

The Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan kicked off in May of 2010 and is expected to be complete by April of 2011.

The purpose of the meeting, which will be held in an open house format, is to introduce the public to the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan and to gauge the public’s perception of priorities for change. As an open house, the public is invited to stop by anytime between 7pm and 9pm to provide input on a variety of recreation topics. The meeting facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. Welcome to the Clarion Regional Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan Website!

In May of 2010, Clarion Borough embarked on an update to its 1996 Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan.  The Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan will identify current deficiencies regarding parks and recreation facilities, programs, etc. and offer recommendations to address those concerns.  While the project was initiated by Clarion Borough, it will be regional in scope, looking at the facilities and services offered within a 15-mile radius of the Borough.  A focus of the plan will be on partnerships – how to best serve the residents and meet current and future recreation needs.

This website has been developed in an effort to provide as much information to the public throughout the planning process as possible and also to collect public input.  Please check this site regularly for project updates as well as to submit your comments and feedback regarding parks and recreation in the Clarion region!
