Western Maryland Scenic Railroad with Rail-to-Trail Design

Mr. Genter served as Project Manager on this federally–funded project involving the design of a 20–mile bicycle/pedestrian rail–with–trail, running from Cumberland through Frostburg to the Mason Dixon Line. A challenging feature of the project was that the trail corridor is shared with the active Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. The trail is an important link to connect over 300 miles of recreation trail from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington D.C., and links to the adjacent historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath.

Mr. Genter was responsible for leading a multi–disciplinary team of civil engineers, structural engineers, environmental scientists, and land surveyors to successfully complete construction documents including environmental reviews, cost estimating, state agency coordination, and public presentations. Construction elements included six road crossings, two trailheads, two railroad tunnels, three railroad bridge conversions, and the re–alignment of three miles of railroad track.
