This project focused on redevelopment and rehabilitation efforts, incorporating sustainable principles as guidelines for design and decision-making to encourage better development. The plan was awarded the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association’s (PA APA) Award for Planning Excellence.
The priorities developed for the plan included:
- Revitalization of the Main Streets in both communities
- Redevelopment of the riverfront
- Development of a formal Park-n-Ride
- Enhancing existing and developing new gateways
- Focusing on partnerships to better utilize limited resources and enhance status for grant opportunities
- Improving the Aquatorium, a public riverfront park in Monongahela
- Focusing on housing revitalization in both communities
